Breast cancer
Feb 27 2006, 5:26 PM EST I am concerned for my friend that has cancer for the third time. Breast Cancer at that. I fear for her life as she has just been made a grandmother, this is her first grandchild. She is a wonderful person and a asset to society. I have questions that are going unanswered. I hear there are 4 stages of cancer and she is in the third stage. What does this mean? I am confused and upset, she is also being heavily medicated for pain, including oxycoden and morphine. I hear that these drugs are not given until the end is near. Is this true? Phyllis in Shreveport, La, please respond with any information that may be helpful. The grandchild I spoke of is also my grandchild. I think it would be a tragedy if she were to pass and not know this beautiful child, and for my grandchild to have the opportunity to meet her wonderful grandmother taken away. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

I know of several stage 4 ovarian cancer survivors (including one who had both ovarian and colorectal cancer). Doctors and drug companies need people to take part in clinical trials -- sometimes these people are stage 4 cancer patients, often they aren't. But the choice is always up to the patient about whether to take part. There is no reason why a stage 4 cancer patient shouldn't fight their disease just as someone else might -- that may mean through actively treating the disease or letting it progress naturally. I'm sorry about your wife, Anonymous. Is she now disease-free but debilitated because of all her treatment, or is she still fighting the disease and that's what causing her pain? All the best to you and she. Do you find this valuable? |

Hospice is tanked over her case for now... What i also meant was , the drugs she take to fight this very , very bad disease, make her sick so very very much... and the drug she takes were just approved in 2005.. right she is on a drip for 10 mg. of morphine every 15 mins... and it does seem to be working.. And i tell my wife it is all up to her if she want to keep on fighting, it not up to me.. it her body and her life... but we have to get the word out , that alot of doctors are not that good at treating this killer..so keep looking for a good doctor, and if the doctor says he is to busy to see you... then RUN to another doctor and get HELP... I am also a Stage 3 breast cancer survivor. Stage 3 means that although the cancer is likely to have spread through to other parts of our body, additional tumors have not yet shown up elsewhere, so there is a always the hope that the cancer didn't get the chance to "take" elsewhere yet. Is she going through a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation? These are all ways to eliminate the risk of the cancer spreading. My story is online here: http://www.BreastCancerVictory.com. It is there to help her go through this, knowing there is always hope, no matter what. Please help her stay positive. It can save her life! :) Sylvie Do you find this valuable? |
