Small cell carcinoma and non small cell carcinoma
Nov 22 2006, 11:06 AM EST
Five years ago I was diagnosed with small cell carcinoma lung cancer and was not expected to live. The tumor was putting pressure on my esophagus causing breathing problems. I was taken to the hospital when my arm swelled to my elbow the doctor in Emerg.
took a chest X-Ray . I was admitted that night and was on oxygen. I was transported to William Osler Hospital where I met my 'ANGEL on earth" . He told me that miracles happen and I said that I would be his miraclelady. To this day I am still his Miraclelady. Three years later I ended up with cancer again. Because of the thoroughness of my doctor it was diagnosed early and it was very small.
With my first bout with Cancer I was administered a very strong dosage of chemo drug and developed neuropathy after the treatments.
Has anyone had the same problem? I would like to hear from anyone who has either had or has neuropathy or has survived lung cancer.
This time I needed an operation removing the lower lobe of my left lung.

Hi miraclelady, thanks for sharing your story. It's amazing.

What chemotherapy agent did you receive? Different drugs may cause neuropathy -- taxol is one of them. I know some women who received taxol for ovarian cancer and they have continued neuropathy. I'll try to find out what they do to cope with it.

When I had my taxol treatments, I also experienced neuropathy, but it went away shortly after I completed my treatments.

I'll pass along any information I can find.

Take care.

Thanks Louise for answering my post. The cancer drug they administered to me was Cisplatin and it too will cause Neruopathy. You mentioned that you know of some women who have neuropathy.I would love to hear from them. I may be able to send info to them on what I have done to improve things with my hands and feet. At first I experienced burning, lack of feeling sensations in hands or feet(when I stepped on someone's foot was unaware of it)((when holding on to my grand daughter's hand held it too tight till she told me it hurt) Prickling feeling in my hands and feet. I also had muscle problems in my legs which prevented me from walking properly or too long as they would tighten and pain. I got physiotherapy this year and am improving a great deal.
Take care

What stage was your lung cancer at? My friend is diagnosed (two days ago) with lung cancer, today they told her it is Stage four, and has spread into the other lung. They thought she just had pneumonia - since February. She will be doing chemo, but was there anything else that helped you. Do you find this valuable?

The first time I really don't know the stage but it was the size of a muskmelon and they had to give me helium with the oxygen in Intensive Care The second time it was very small and at stage 1. When they operated the doctor got it all so I did not need followup treatments.
The first cancer I had treatments of chemotherapy and radiation. While I was having chemo I would visualize each drop was making the cancer explode. I also listened to a tape walkman Dan Gibson's Solitude "Angel's Embrace" when I went to bed at night while I slept as well as chemo. Positive thinking helps too. My family and friends surround me with love and support. Drink green tea as it is an antioxidant and Ensure. I hope that will help your friend. Please let her know that my thoughts and prayers are with her for a speedy recovery and that she will be a survivor. Please take care of her.
If I can be of anymore help please let me know
Take care

I was moved by your experience and was moved to contact you. I wanted to tell you about a product called Immunocal from Immunotec Research, Inc.. Immunocal is a whey protein that raises glutathione levels and stimulates the immune system to function optimally. Low or no glutathione levels are associated with aging and disease. There are testimonials that tell their experience and are available for contact of people who have become disease free and symptom free. Immunocal promotes well-being and good health. It is recognized by the FDA and is listed in the PDR, sitting on every doctor's desk, for it's efficacy. There is a testimonial of a person with stage four cancer who took this product and became cancer free. Please contact me at my website at: immunotec.com/gregoryl@aol. Hope to hear from you. Maria

Miracle lady,
My mum passed away suddenly in Las Vegas after finding a tumor crushing her esophagus, it was wrapped around the outside, 9 cm x 7cm she had intensive chemo but crashed when she was recovering in the hotel and lost blood pressure, she died 9 days after treatment. Could she have been saved? as the cancer hadn,t spread anywhere else. She died 22nd Dec 07 and its been very difficult to deal with as I know people can overcome anything and survive like you. Thanks xxx
