Ovarian cancer
Jul 28 2006, 11:21 AM EDT
I have not been feel well for some months, I have a cough that will not go away, I become short of breath after I have eaten. I feel bloated all the time and my weight is creeping up, even though I am not eating anymore. My mom died of Ovarian cancer at the age 63, we only found out that it was cancer 6 weeks before she died. Her sister died of breast cancer at the age of 48. My doctor doesn't seem worried and just says lets leave it a while and see how you get on. What should I do. 16  out of 16 found this valuable. Do you?

I agree, go to another doctor immediately -- you need a CA 125 blood test, a transvaginal ultrasound, and a CT scan or MRI. If there are any abnormalities requiring surgery, you need a gyn/onc, preferably at a teaching hospital if you can. With your family history there is a VERY STRONG chance that you will be afflicted with ovarian or breast cancer. You have symptoms associated with ovarian cancer and a strong family history of cancer at a relatively young age.

Go to the doctor as soon as you can. And please keep us updated with your progress.

there are many woman who have been told by their family doctor - it is okay and then discovered too late they had cancer. Get ye to a gynocological oncologist immediately.

Yes, don't take no for an answer. You may have had a hysterectomy, but you are also having symptoms which could be indicating a very serious problem. Insist that your doctor look into the symptoms.
