Headline: Study question value of 2 popular prostate cancer tests
Researchers tested the effectiveness of two popular prostate cancer screening tests and found that the tests failed to save lives. The study is part of the ongoing debate that questions whether men should undergo prostate cancer screening tests at all. The first test is a blood test that measures prostate specific antigen, or PSA. The second is a digital rectal exam, in which doctors feel for abnormalities in the prostate through the rectal wall. One of the researchers suggested that doctors should still undergo the exams, but should warn patients that the tests are not 100 percent effective.
