Peter Jennings
Peter Jennings died of lung cancer on August 7, 2005 at the age of 67. The Canadian-born newsman was the sole anchor of ABC World New Tonight from 1983 to his death in 2005.
Jennings was a presence in American homes for more than twenty years. He reported on every major capital and war zone throughout the world. He actually witnessed the Berlin Wall being built and being destroyed. He brought this news to our lives. In the last years of his career, he seemed to report with more compassion.
Whether or not his critics are right about his "liberal bias", Jennings truly seemed to be reporting from what stirred his heart. Anyone can respect that kind of personal integrity. He is both admired and missed.
