Non-hodgkin's lymphoma
Non-Hodgkin's disease is a type of lymphoma, which is a cancer in the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is part of the immune system, whose function is to fight disease and infections.
Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma causes the cells in the lymphatic system to abnormally reproduce, eventually causing tumors to grow. Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cells can also spread to other organs. There are several types of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which are classified and treated by how quickly they spread.
Non-Hodgkins lymphoma has increased by more than 70% over the last twenty years. It now accounts for 4% of all cancers diagnosed in the US. It is most common in people between the ages of 40 and 70. Standard treatment options include chemotherapy , stem cell transplantation and radiation.
Because Non Hodgkins Lymphoma is thought to be linked to exposure to pesticides and benzene, there are certain professions that pose a particular risk. This includes jobs where people are exposed to certain rubbers, lubricants, dyes, detergents, drugs, pesticides, crude oil, and gasoline. Benzene is also naturally found in forest fire smoke and diesel engine exhaust.

For months I was told I was mentally ill, that is until they found a lump the size of a grapefruit in my nasal area.
Back in 1977 it was diagnoses as stage 4 aggressive Lympho-Sarcoma. I was given less that 3 months to live. years later, after treatment, I was told I couldn't have children. Now 4 children and 3 grandchildren later, and a husband of over 30 years that has been through it all with me, I finally see how difficult it is for those around me to watch someone 'dieing' of Cancer and be completely unable to feel useful in any capacity . My Father survived his bout, and now my mother has been diagnosed with thymus cancer with no treatment options. I thought cancer was part of the past only to find out I need that past in order to comprehend what it was my parents and husband went through dealing with being on the outside looking in. |

I had non-hodgkins lymphoma diagnosed in 2004, and went throught 20 radiation treatments on my neck and cheek.
Now they found two mildly enlarged lymph nodes in my abdomen. So in July I have to repeat the cat scan and the pet scan. I want to know if I have reason to worry., Thankyou hilde |
