My Mom Beat Cancer

For the second time, my mother has won the fight against breast cancer. My mother is a very active memeber of the Seattle community in many different facets. She is head of the West Seattle Garden Tour, she has piano lessons every week, she likes to kayak and eat at a new place one night a week. She also has a dinner party every Friday night at her house.

It was extremely difficult watching my mother go through her treatment. She did not do chemo, but she had tubes injected into her left breast and the doctors dropped small radio-active pebbles down the tubes, and in about two months she was cancer-free. It was awesome, my mother got right back into her normal routine -- gardening, throwing parties, playing jazz music in the middle of the day. She has made my life more enjoyable knowing that with the right drive and determination, the human body is stronger than anything else. In my efforts to express myself online to other people affected in some form or another by cancer, I would encourage people to post more, and create a closer community online of resources and feedback. The internet has become an oasis for information and support.

Hey urbanninja, I left a comment on your profile, but also wanted to comment here. You (and your mom) may be interested in checking out other shared stories on this site -- there are even some links to the blogs of other breast cancer survivors -- and if you feel comfortable with this, it would be great if you could provide some feedback on your mom's treatment centre and any local support systems she uses.

Thanks again for contributing!
