My dad was the man this website was started after. He passed away from multiple myeloma about 4 years ago. He had it for almost a year and then had 0 spike (I think thats what you call it) meaning he had no more cancer. A few months after, it returned and after a year or so he passed away. Although this is a fatal disease, don't loose hope because he survived and fought for a very long time before he caught phnemonia and his immune system finally failed. Organizations like the MMRF (Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation) are working very hard to finally find a cure. WE ARE HOLDING A BIKE RIDE AT JUBILLE FARMS IN WASHINGTON TO RAISE MONEY FOR MM IN HONOR OF MY DAD ON SEPTEMBER 14TH. Hopefully we can ride t words a cure!

My father was diagnosed with this cancer on 2/19/05. He lived less than 4 months after being diagnosed. It was the worst thing, that I personally, had to see someone go through. I'm still greiving today. It was shocking to see how quick he lost the ability to normal everyday activities, like walking by yourself. The medicine the oncologist put him on for the cancer affected his liver and caused damage, so they had to take him off it. He lost the function of his kidneys and had to be put on dialysis(spelling?). In the end he was not able to feed himself, etc. The one thing I'm grateful for was that my mother was not here to see him go through this. She passed away June 10, 2004. My father passed away on June 11, 2005. I know that they are together again. They missed their 45th anniversary by 10 days when my mother passed from heart bypass surgery complications.
I don't know too much about this disease, except the fact that it is a very agressive cancer if it's not caught in it's earliest stages.

I have a good friend who was recently diagnosed with m.m. He is supposedly in stage 1.5 of a three-stage disease. He is presently going for radiation treatments each morning to help control the terrible pain. Would love to hear from anyone out there who has been diagnosed and living with m.m. as far as what your experiences have been with treatments, medications, etc. Thank you.

I have watched patients suffer unnecessarily for the benefit of the family and their wishes. I know I will never want to go through some of the things my patients have had to endure and that I have had to witness especially towards the end of their lives. Sometimes I think the families don't have a true understanding of the complexity of the illness and all the problems that come along with a patient that is critically ill even though nurses and doctors try to explain it . When is it time to say enough suffering is enough ?? Patient is being kept alive by ventilator, medicine to keep blood pressure up, just about a continuous infusion of blood, remains nonresponsive after two recent CODES----
chest compessions and cardiac meds. The multiple myeloma is stable but everything else is spiraling downward---renal function, platelet count, and H/ H. Help
