Kids and cancer
One of the best ways to find out about issues and topics related to kids and cancer, other than supporting and contributing to this site, is to join the many e-mail list-servs available on the web. Concerned parents around the world have come together via e-mail to share stories and techniques of coping with this challenging and all-consuming situation.
There is no need to face cancer alone. Parents: know that there are others who have faced what you are facing, or who are gong through it right now as well, and don't be afraid to reach out.
Some things to keep in mind when joining a list-serv are:
1. Don't approach the list if you have ideas for cures. Parents are very protective about giving their kids false hopes. Far too many exist in the world already.
2. Be respectful and humble. Remember that nerves are edgy already due to the highly intense emotional nature of what people are facing.
3. Offer something if you can. Anything: an idea, a story, a suggestion for support. Show that you are going to be an active participant in the list.
Aside from those basic things: don't be afraid to ask questions. Dealing with cancer is a learning process for everyone involved.
