Headline: Doubts cast on fiber's effect on cancer

The Boston Globe reported that the popular belief that fiber reduces the chances of getting colorectal cancer, the third most common cancer, may be untrue. The study, led by the Harvard School of Public Health, combined and reanalyzed 13 previous studies. The study compared people who ingested 30 grams of fiber with those who took in less than half that number. It was determined that the two groups' cancer risk was the same.It has been commonly believed that fiber might deter colon cancer since the 1960s.
