I recently found a lump in my thigh and am curious to know if cancer lumps hurt to the touch. Could someone out there shed some light, please?

I am a proud student of the University of Texas at Austin, and a research assistant for the University's Nursing School. I am working with Dr. Im, Ph D, MPH, RN, Professor. who is conducting a study entitled “The use of Internet Cancer Support Groups among Asian Americans Living with Cancer (CASAA).” In this study, we are conducting an Internet survey and online forum via a website to collect information on the use of Internet Cancer Support Groups of Asian American cancer patients. Our study is funded by the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research in Underserved Populations (CHPR) and the Expedited Proposal-Enhancement Grants (EP-EG).

We hope that you will help us by announcing our research to your organization, friends, and patients. If you know any Asian American cancer patients, please invite them to participate in our study. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

We are seeking cancer patients aged 18 years or older, who can read and write English, and whose self-reported ethnic identity is Asian American. Involvement in the study will consist of the following:
(a) Internet survey of approx 30 minutes
(b) optional online forum discussion with 9 topics for 1 month

Reimbursement for each participant includes a 10 dollar gift certificate for the survey and a 50 dollar gift certificate for the online forum.

Please visit our project website: http://buda.nur.utexas.edu/casaa

Have a great day,
Cindy Tsai

cocojambo New Clinical Trial Studying Chemotherapy & Radiation Treatments 0 Sep 7 2008, 1:12 PM EDT by cocojambo

A new clinical trial to study alternative radiation & chemotherapy treatments for pleural mesothelioma is underway at the The Mesothelioma Center within the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Robert Taub, the pioneer of the study and director of the Mesothelioma Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia and professor of clinical medicine at Columbia University (College of Surgeons Department) quotes, "Current surgical and chemotherapy treatments of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma are unsatisfactory, and have not been shown to significantly prolong survival. In this study, we will investigate whether a combination of chemotherapy and radiation targeted directly at the lung's lining can improve outcomes while avoiding surgery. In addition, this approach has shown to have minimal toxic side effects compared to systemic chemotherapy."
